Będzie dla Was motywacją?

I've been running at full tilt, and the damage is beginning to show. Yesterday, after spending my day jetting around the town like a chicken with its head cut off, the lovely @sagetree suggested I take a restorative #yoga class or get a massage to relax. I never invest in relaxation- it's a bad habit that most Americans are guilty of because our society does not encourage relaxation. Not like I have the excess money for a massage (I wish), but I definitely plan to sneak in a restorative class this weekend in an effort to simply chill the fuck out. I need to chill, because next week will kick off the beginning of a windstorm- I'll be in NYC attending @FFFWeek & @theCurvyCon, among other things. At some point I'll teach a class or two (you guys will be the first to know when I finalize dates/locations), I'll turn 28 during #NYCPride, & one of my @salemacademy sisters is tying the knot. It'll be a crazy ride- follow @jessamynstanley if you want behind the scenes shots of all the action. (The lack of chill has also effected my ability to respond to messages. I'm sorry for the delay, y'all- I wish there were just 1-3 more hours in the day so I can answer all of your questions as quickly as they deserve to be answered. But, in the short term, for everyone who has sent me an e-mail, FB message, Instagram message, Tumblr message, or tweet saying "How Do I Start Practicing Yoga?", please know that the true answer is "ROLL OUT A MAT/BLANKET/TOWEL and JUST START. TRY @YOGAGLO, TRY @YOGAVIBES, WHATEVER. But STOP WAITING & START PRACTICING IMMEDIATELY.) Leggings- @Fractal.9 Top- @ParamitaDesigns

Thanks to @unclerush, @tarastiles, and @nymag, I am feeling a lot of love from all points of the globe. I can't tell you how happy I am to see so many people engaging in dialogue about body issues in the #yoga community- this is the dialogue that leads to change. This is the dialogue that fosters a diverse and widespread yoga community, not pictures and inspirational quotes. I am grateful to be part of a community that began long before I ever stepped on a yoga mat. Warriors like @diannebondyyoga, @curvyyoga, & @amber_karnes have been stoking the flames of this conversation for so long and I'm happy to be one of many baby samurais in their kick ass body positive army. @Nymag, one of my favorite magazines, asked my thoughts about the instagram yoga community and the evolution of #fatyoga- click the link in my instagram header to read the article! Also, this photo is #tbt to being a curvy inverted statue with my love @nolatrees. PRO TIP- check out her website (nolatreesyoga.com) for a sneak peak of our upcoming teaching tour dates. Official dates and registration details are coming soon! Leggings- @lineagewear

Today I held #pinchamayurasana w/ STRAIGHT MOTHERFUCKIN' LEGS, Y'ALL. FOR A COUPLE OF BREATHS. AND I DIDN'T FALL DOWN- I actually exited somewhat gracefully. I am obsessed w/ the way @fitqueenirene & @cbquality enter this pose because they always look as though they are effortlessly standing up, as we do when we stand on our feet. Idk if you recall, but any 1-3 year old will tell you that learning to stand on your feet is sooo hard. Therefore, it shouldn't surprise anyone that it could take years before one can comfortably find balance on the forearms, hands, or head. As it stands, I've been working on this pose for the better portion of two years and it's been a crazy ride that's definitely involved wayyy more falling down than standing up. I guess what I'm trying to say is- don't give up. No matter what. No matter how many times you fall down. Because one day you won't fall down. And the feeling will be so worth it. (By the way, if you're curious about my life off the mat or want to see outtakes from my home practice, follow @jessamynstanley- it's mostly just me, my friends, and my pets actin' a damn fool.) I love the #Durham yoga community, y'all. I've met so many interesting people recently, and it's largely all because of the triangle #yoga community. I am so happy to see so many different colors and shapes in my classes, and so many of my fellow teachers are starting up new projects and events around town. Next week is the last week to practice w/ me at my local classes until July- I'll be in #NYC essentially until the end of the month. If you're in the #NCTriangle, check out my facebook page or website (both links are in my instagram header) for more details about my weekly teaching schedule. I'm especially lovin' my Tuesday noon class at @Durhamyoga- the space is freaking gorgeous, and I've been blessed to meet new and awesome people every week. By the way, I was thinking about teaching a last minute drop-in yoga class while I'm in New York.....is that even a thing? Is there a studio in town willing to let a gypsy yoga teacher slide in a quick hour flow for a few students? And if you live and practice in #NYC, would you come out to a last minute body positive vinyasa style class taught by yours truly? #Pinchamayurasana practice at @durhamyoga after my Tuesday class- I just can't get enough of #forearmstand, y'all. It's my predator, my master, my driving inspiration- I can't get enough. Leggings- @forever21

(TRIGGER WARNING: SELF-MUTILATION, DEPRESSION) I spent my adolescence being completely ungrateful for my body. It's strength and power was totally lost on me as I honed in on 'faults' that were ingrained in me from childhood. Like many people, I suffered from depression and resorted to violent ways of dealing with my unhappiness. As an adult, body acceptance isn't really easier- it's a hard won daily battle. Everyone has good days and bad days. I anticipate having ups and downs for the rest of my life. Regardless of the ups and downs, I hope I never forget that my body is so much more than the sum of its parts. My #yoga practice helps me remember that internal strength is so much more powerful than societal norms. Photo by the incredible Substantia Jones of the Adipositivity Project.
