Ach…

Okay ✋🏻 There is a new trend on Twitter and Instagram called the #A4waist Paper Challenge. Women are slimming themselves down to fit the size of a sheet of paper. (Just a heads up: the average waist size is 37.8 inches and the width of a paper is 8.3 inches). This is setting women up for emotional destruction – not to mention unhealthy body ideals. It saddens me that women and girls feel the need to fit a „perfect” body size. All bodies are great bodies. They do wonderful things for us. They protect us and keep us going. Purposely slimming down to 8.7 inches is hurting our bodies. It is teaching women that they are not ENOUGH if their body is a different shape or size. Women spend so much time focusing on their flaws when we could be focusing on our strengths. So what if my waist is not the width of a paper. That does not change my intelligence, strength, compassion, courage, desire to learn, or my kindness. It only damages my ideal worth. And that is NOT OKAY. We need to be celebrating our worth, understanding that we are enough, and appreciating our bodies for everything they do for us. This challenge both sickens and saddens me, please put an end to it. We are the role models for young girls. Do we really want them growing up to these body image ideals? Do we really want them risking their health in this way? I understand that some people are smaller, and that’s wonderful. That’s their body. That may not be your body, and altering your body to get there is not the answer. I want to find these women and give them a hug and tell them that they are beautiful. 👭 #womenempowerment @iamthatgirl @hellogiggles
